Introduced in October 2014, the iPad mini 3 was a modest upgrade to the iPad mini 2, adding Touch ID and an NFC chip for Apple Pay support. The modesty of the upgrade was particularly surprising given the significant upgrade the iPad mini 2 had compared to the original iPad mini.
The iPad mini 3 was available in three color combinations (white/silver, white/gold, and black/space gray), in three price tiers based on storage capacity (the 128 GB model received a $100 price cut, and no 64 GB model was sold):
- 16 GB: $399 ($529 with LTE)
- 32 GB: $499 ($629 with LTE)
- 128 GB: $599 ($729 with LTE)
