The 2.8 GHz model used an Intel Mobile Core Duo T9600 CPU with 6 MB of L2 cache. The 2.53 GHz model had only a single NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU GPU. The NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU used a portion of main memory as VRAM. Though reported as a 256 MB graphics system, the chipset actually used up to 272 MB of RAM.
Introduced in June 2009, The MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) was primarily a speed-bump of the The MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008). In addition to including faster processors, The MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) included two major changes: The ExpressCard/34 slot was replaced with an SD card slot, and the removable battery was replaced with the integrated battery introduced with the MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009).
The MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) shipped in three configurations: 2.53 GHz/4 GB RAM/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M/250 GB HD/$1699, 2.66 GHz/4 GB RAM/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & 9600M GT/256 MB VRAM/320 GB HD/$1999, 2.8 GHz/4 GB RAM/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & 9600M GT/512 MB VRAM/500 GB HD/$2299. Built-to-order options included a 3.06 GHz processor, 320 and 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drives, a 128 or 256 GB solid-state drive, an anti-glare display, and up to 8 GB of RAM. All models were discontinued in April 2010, replaced by the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010).
